DESCRIPTION :

Three aisled domed church with cylindral apses built on the ruins of an early basilica with baptisterium.

Last structure of church dates to 14th century. The church has been slighty uncovered was built on the ruins of Hellenistic and Roman ruins. The bore made during excavations show that there are remains of buildings that date to the 4th century BC. The church demolished during Arabs raids in 822, and rebuilt with a dome in 12th century on remains of the ruined church.

The church preserved wall paintings depicting St John Chrysostomos, St George, St John the Baptist and a prelate. These 12th century paintings were removed.

Church was part of the monastery and monastery surrounded with a wall. Architecturally the monastery has a courtyard with an archway, narthexes, middle and side aisles and three apses.

Period : 4th BC – 14th AD
